Before it is drawn or made, design is first seen often in fleeting, familiar moments we move through without pause, our observations of objects, spaces, and the ways people move through them form the quiet background to how we think about making.

“Cycles of days boil down to a recurring line of events, change in scales of contexts, from reading newspaper in an armchair each morning to navigating the streets in trains, taxis & auto rickshaws, and back to the same chair by the evening, ‘we must have met so many objects in the day!’”

While these encounters may not explicitly dictate our designs, they inform a way of thinking- one that values both the seen and the unseen, both the drawn and the felt. Our process begins with drawings but is continually shaped by material and hand. In translating ideas into form, we welcome the evolving nature of design where instinct, tactile, and gesture meet.

Great care is taken in selecting materials that speak to the function, form, and feeling of each piece. The studio’s process allows for chance, adjustment, and nuance. It is in this space between intention and intuition that our pieces take shape, each striving for coherence, balance, and quiet presence.

A lot of care is given to the selection of types and quality of wood that best complement the form of our pieces. This is primarily done to articulate the exact occasions where pieces come together.

The touch of a hand adds unparalleled dimensions to any piece. When we take flat drawings into making, we consciously allow for evolution of the design through this interaction of human hands with the material, especially while sculpting the wood.”

The process outside of the desk and in contact with the materials informs us of a lot while we make instinctive decisions. These fascinating details become occasions of exploration as we constantly try to achieve a coherence and balance within all pieces.
